Plan Commission Workshop Fundamentals – October 20, 2025, 6-8:30 pm

The 2025 Plan Commission Workshop is designed for commission members and others that affect local land use decision-making. We’ll review the roles and responsibilities of the plan commission and look at three primary tools for decision-making: the comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, and subdivision ordinance. We’ll discuss plan and ordinance updates, and the role of the plan commission in reviewing rezones, conditional uses and plats.

The Workshop will be held at the Waukesha County Courthouse Complex in the Administration Center in room 255. The cost of the workshop is $40 and includes light refreshments. Registration is limited to the first 60 paid participants.

Appointment to a local government’s plan commission is an important commitment carrying significant responsibilities. The decisions reached can affect community and regional functioning, as well as character, for decades or more.

A plan commission workshop can help bridge the knowledge-experience gap and increase commissioner confidence. Extension Waukesha County holds a plan commission workshop approximately every 18 months. Each workshop addresses one or more specific issues.
