Programs for Parents
Eating Smart & Being Active
Parents learn ways to plan and shop for budget-friendly meals that incorporate fruits, veggies, whole grains and lean protein foods, and stay active as a family. Participants prepare a healthy recipe at each lesson and practice physical activities that are simple to do at home. At the end of the series, participants take home a recipe book and cooking tools. This 7-lesson series is available in English or Spanish and is offered in group settings at various community sites.
Around the Table – Nourishing Families
Parents enjoy conversation and reflection about food and family mealtime practices and learn mindfulness skills to care for their nutritional well-being. Participants prepare a healthy recipe at each lesson and practice mindful eating tips. This 6- lesson series is available in English or Spanish and is offered in group settings at various community sites.
Create Better Health
Participants learn how to use foods they already have in their kitchen to create a variety of nourishing meals. This 6-lesson series includes a nutrition topic and a hands-on cooking demonstration where participants “create” a meal based on customizable meal templates. Recipes incorporate healthy, budget-friendly whole foods and allow participants to be creative in the kitchen.
Cooking Matters
Parents and caregivers of young children practice ways to make smart choices for their family, with topics such as “Hack Your Snack,” “No More Mealtime Madness,” “Feeding in the First Year,” “Making Recipes Work For You,” “The Family Kitchen,” “Drink To Your Health,” and “Kids Say Yes to Fruits and Vegetables.” This parent-focused program is offered as a series or as single lessons, with parents alone or preparing food together with their kids.
