Plan Commission Workshops

Appointment to a local government’s plan commission is an important commitment carrying significant responsibilities. The decisions reached can affect community and regional functioning, as well as character, for decades or more.

A plan commission workshop can help bridge the knowledge-experience gap and increase commissioner confidence. Extension Waukesha County holds a plan commission workshop approximately every 18 months. Each workshop addresses one or more specific issues.

Previous Plan Commission Workshop Topics

  • Waukesha County’s Housing Landscape Trends & Opportunities
  • Community Values, Local Discretion & New State Rule on Conditional Use
  • Tax Increment Financing
  • Roles, Rights, & Responsibilities
  • Procedural Responsibilities
  • Regional Planning Efforts
  • Conservation Subdivision Design: Environmental Merits & Barriers to Implementation

Local Government Academy

Extension Waukesha County works with municipalities to create a Local Government Academy tailored to the needs of your municipality.

Academy participants can:

  • Learn about community services and challenges
  • Gain an understanding of city operations
  • Learn how to become more civically involved
  • Strengthen their network of relationships with city staff and other city decision makers

If your municipality is interested in learning how to get more residents engaged in your community, contact Steve at 262-548-7781.

Community Engagement

Extension Waukesha County creates programs specific to the needs of local municipalities on a fee for service basis.

Civic Participation

Strong cross-sector relationships continue to be built on a foundation of engaging residents, stakeholders, and elected officials in a process that benefit the larger community. Partners are numerous, goals are shared and resources are leveraged for impact with transformational education. To meet community needs, programs are custom designed.

Public Opinion Surveys

Through this process, we work with your stakeholder team to develop a custom survey tool that helps decision makers better understand community needs. The survey results analysis then provides the residents and community leaders the data necessary to help them make an informed decision in regards to future community efforts and directions.
