Tower Hill Neighborhood Garden

The Tower Hill Neighborhood Garden project demonstrates how a community garden is beneficial to the environment including the health and well-being of neighbors. Immediate benefits include increased access to nutritious foods, strengthening community connections and increasing civic participation.

Once a week (Tuesdays, 6-7 pm June-September) neighbors meet up to plant and care for the garden, have conversations and provide input in other community development initiatives. In addition, Extension Waukesha County provides health and well-being discussion with lessons focused on nutrition and promoting mental health. In between garden sessions, some neighbors also volunteer to visit the garden and assist with maintenance as needed. All produce harvested is shared by participants, and any excess produce is donated.

The Tower Hill Neighborhood Garden is a project of the Tower Hill Neighborhood Association, Inc., in cooperation with ProHealth Care and UW- Madison Division of Extension Waukesha County. This project was initiated in 2006 at a vacant lot on Lawnsdale Avenue as a result of a community conversation with neighbors, ProHealth Care and UW-Madison Division of Extension. In 2018 the garden was moved to the current location at 152 Caldwell Street as Waukesha Memorial Hospital’s boulevard project was implemented to improve the entrance and exit of visitors to the hospital.

For more information about the Tower Hill Neighborhood Association, Inc., please find them on Facebook or attend a monthly neighborhood meeting (3rd Thursdays every month, 7-8 pm at St. Mark’s 424 Hyde Park), or contact Lisa Salb, Tower Hill Neighborhood Association president at ljsalb@gmail.com.
